Reading- We have completed our fantasy novels.  Most of the students seemed to enjoy this genre of literature.  We will work on cause/effect relationships for the next two weeks.  We will also begin our new realistic fiction novels.

Language-  We are finishing pronouns and taking a quiz on Wednesday.  Then we will begin adjectives and article adjectives on Thursday.

Febuary 23rd-27th

Reading- I am continuing M.A.P. Monday where we work on test taking strategies.  These strategies should help the students in any class/test they take.  We will be completing our fantasy novels this week and work on culminating activities to finish the unit.  We will also do activities that help us learn the difference between fact and opinion. 

Language- We will finish our short unit on pronouns.  The Unit 5 check up will be at the end of the week.  We will have a quiz over pronouns next week.

Thanks to the parents who sent “goodies” for our party.  The students seemed to enjoy the sundays while they read their valentines.

Remember: D.A.R.E. graduation is Tuesday night at 6:30.  The students have worked hard in order to receive the D.A.R.E. certificate.  They have learned skills that will help them make good decisions for the rest of their lives. 

Reading:  We will start the week with M.A.P. Monday by learning strategies/skills that will help in test taking.  Then we will continue with our fantasy genre novels for the remainder of the week.

Language: This week, we will continue with the different types of pronouns and pronoun agreement.

Reading- We are continuing MAP Mondays by learning test-taking strategies using different Reading passages.  Tuesday – Friday, we will read and do activities related to our fantasy novels.

Language- We are beginning Unit 5 in Language.  This week, we will work with pronouns.  Students will learn the difference between subject and object pronouns and use them correctly.

DARE Graduation

The graduation for the students on the Green Team has been scheduled for Tuesday evening, February 17 at 6:30 p.m. in the gym.

Reading- This week, we will start where we left off last week.  We will be working in our novels, responding to our reading in our journals, and working on inferring from the text.  On Tuesday, we will go to the Library during our Reading period.

Language-  We will review Unit 4, which is irregular verbs, confusing verbs and direct objects.  We will also work on a cumulative review of Units 1-4 this week.

Friday we will have the Cookie Dough Fund Raiser Awards at 10:00 and the Honor’s Assembly at 2:30.

Reading-  This week, we are starting M.A.P. Mondays.  On Mondays until the test, we will work on Reading and test taking strategies.  Also this week, we will review strategies for reading non-fiction selections.  We will continue with reading and activies related to our fantasy novels, too. 

Language- In Language, we will be working on contractions the first part of the week.  Later in the week  we will work on a review of Unit 4.  The review will be over irregular verbs, direct objects, confusing verbs, and contractions.

Reading- This week we will begin reading different fantasy novels.  In this genre of literature, there are elements included in the story that are impossible in real life, such as talking animals or magical powers.  We will be responding to what we read in our Reading journals, as well as having discussions with students who are reading the same novel.

Language-  This week will be spent learning about direct objects.  We will also discuss verb pairs that are easily confused, and are often used incorrectly.

January 12th-16th

Reading- In Reading this week we will be working with a non-fiction booklet.  We will learn strategies for reading non-fiction that are different from reading fiction.  The booklet is The Amazing Undersea Food Web.  This will be a culmination of what the students have learned in Science about food webs.

Language- We are continuing with verbs this week, but we will be working on the irregular verbs that do not follow regular Language rules.  These verbs forms must be memorized, so we will fill out charts to help us learn them.  On Friday, we will have a quiz over irregular verbs.

December 15-19

Reading- This week the skill we will be working on is compare/contrast.  We are using the traditional Night Before Christmas and comparing other versions to it.  We will also try to solve a Christmas mystery on Wednesday and Thursday.

Language-  We will be continuing to work with verbs.  We will learn about the tense of verbs and how to use them correctly.

On Friday, we will go to Hammons Hall for a Christmas opera.  Please return permission forms as soon as possible.  Have a wonderful Christmas!
