Late/Missing Work Policies
During the fifth and sixth grade years, it is our desire that students improve their work and study habits and get ready for Middle School expectations. At the fifth grade level, one way we encourage this is to inform students and parents of expectations and put into place several procedures to encourage success. We know that everyone makes mistakes and emergencies can happen. Because of this, we have policies to help students and parents deal with these situations. Please note the policies in the handbook as well as ones noted below.
–In the case of an extended absence such as family vacation. Please notify the homeroom teacher. However work will not be sent with a student. (see the school handbook) It is very difficult to know exactly what will be covered and make assignments that are in the future. Students will be responsible for getting their assignments when they return and will be given time to complete them. Full credit will be given if assignments are completed in a timely manner–(again, the handbook states the policy of 2 days per day missed).
–For illness or other short-term absences, please notify the office of a studen’ts absence. It is helpful if you also e-mail the homeroom teacher. The homeroom teacher will send notification to the team teachers and gather assignments for that day. They will be ready to pick up after 3:15 p.m. In most cases, we send the assignments and textbooks necessary to the office for pick-up. Please look over the assignment note before you leave, to be sure you have necessary materials and ask questions, if needed.
LATE WORK
“CHANCE”
“Chance” will be 2 exceptions for late assignments. They may also occasionally be used to redo a daily assignment that received a low grade (teacher’s discretion). Students will have 2 “Chances” per subject each quarter. This does not include major projects or tests and must be turned in within 5 days from when the assignment was due. During the first semester the students will be given full credit for these late assignments. After the first semester, they will be given 80% credit. Teachers will keep record of the used and remaining “Chances”.
Remember: 2 Chances per subject, per quarter
BEHAVIOR/ZERO NOTICE
We will notify you about zeros &/or consistent poor behavior through a weekly form sent home with those who have had problems (BZ Note). Please sign this form and return to school the next day. Your child will loose part or all of recess time until the notice is returned. Please understand that the zeros can only be made up with “Chances” (see policy above.)
